Red Herrings

This week’s NY Times Automobile section has a couple of articles covering alternative ways to get around.

NYT: But Can You Call It a Woody?

NYT: Towns Grease the Wheels to Save Fuel

Westchester County, north of New York City, has converted 15 of its vehicles to run on waste vegetable oil, ranging from a garish green Veggie Van used for educational purposes to heavy equipment like a garbage truck and a farm tractor.

Don’t count on wood or recycled vegetable oil powering your vehicle in the future. Neither option is scalable.

CBC (the Canadian Broadcasting Company) talked to James Howard Kunstler recently about Peak Oil. I haven’t seen Kunstler show up on 60 Minutes or in The New York Times yet. The American news media, which is still heavily into the denial stage of this disaster, might not be ready for this yet.
