I’ve made a couple of changes to the site. One of them is the theme, which I hope you find pleasing and not distracting. My intent with the display of the site is always to present content in a clear, uncluttered, easy to read format and to make things easy to find. The calendar is gone for now. Let me know what you think about the new look.

The second change is in the advertising. I’m withdrawing my site from the Forbes Business & Financial Blogging Network. Any ads you see on the site are now being provided by Google AdSense. Unfortunately, I don’t have perfect control over the ads that you see. Previously, there have been some ads for online investing, and even offers to get into things like commodities, and that included oil speculation. Which is odd, considering some of the things I’ve been writing about besides Peak Oil, like what went wrong with the American Dream. Online investing is part of the problem. Security (financial and national) lies not in your stock portfolio but in your job and your way of life. In order to become more profitable, corporations are sending jobs overseas. Every trade you make online is a shiv in the back of someone else in this country, and no one is immune to the long-term effects of this.

I made this change last night, and it pained me upon checking the site this morning to discover that I’m now running ads for John McCain. While he needs all the help he can get, and in 2000 I might have been perfectly willing to allow this sort of thing, right now I find it annoying and compromising to have political ads running on this site. I’m still figuring the system out. Those particular ads should be gone by mid-morning. Until I get that fixed, please know that any ads you see do not reflect an endorsement by me.
